This Reel is thought to have originated in a Churchyard, where on a cold winter's Sunday a Minister was late for his service-- parishioners tried to keep warm by clapping their hands and stamping their feet' While this may well be a sanitised explanation the more rowdy origins are also more than relevant as dancing after a wee dram sounds much more likely and the two origins are probably interlinked.
