1. With the shorter toe that stretches around the toe are when you tie them up over the toe. Yes, your own toe must work onto the toe area as before but the shape is so much more improved now. Designed for competition use. The HCJ can be used for practice of course but it was designed more for competition.

Padded collar around the back of the shoe to reduce friction on the Achilles.

The new low profile tip which stops the toes being bent back like other brands that use very thick tips. This , in turn, stops  you being thrown back onto your heel. Teachers and dancers have been behind this innovation. As this is not made from fibreglass there is less chance of the tip or heel shattering or breaking in the normal lifetime of the shoe. The material allows a great sound which travels far.

The tip sound is almost like a metal tap-no metal in either the heel or tip though.

Tip and heel made in a new laminated fibre material that is very dense and so less is needed to make a very loud click . We tested this for a year before we decided to use it. 

 The heel has a very  loud sound when clicked I have rounded the profile to get your contact point in the best position. It is not a bubble heel as the profile does not extend beyond the width of the sides of the upper.

Flexible arch section. I do not believe in fully flexible soles that are unsupported by an arch support. What my research of some 40 years has found is that without arch support, the arch can be put at great stress. With nothing to support the arch from the heel, this could damage the foot. Therefore we developed a special flexible arch support that allows you flexibility without compromising a support for your arch.

Heavy suede sole that withstands wear. Unlike ordinary suede soles these are strong shoe quality necessary to allow the dancer great comfort while allowing a constant flex.

Padded insole throughout which allows flexibility but less likely to collapse quickly like other flexible suede soled shoes.

In shipped shoes  we will be including a pair of dance rubber sections behind the tip to make that section stiffer if the dancer prefers that. This is for dancers who break in their shoes quickly and want more durability.  It will reduce the need for wrapping duct tape around the soles to stop slip  but some dancers like a sole to be slippy. These dance rubbers can be easily peeled of if you wish to do so. I would suggest that you try them first though.

The New Hullachan  Highland Shoe. Redesigned for a tighter fit, better heel shape, a more comfortable arch and strengthened stitching throughout.

I was making Hullachan with my mother the famous dance teacher, Sadie Simpson, for many years before I realised that I could make a shoe that would offer safety and comfort to
Highland Dancers.

The Hullachan Pro was the shoe that took over from the Hullachan. The half sole design went through a few improvements as it evolved into the present great shape.

The insole pad comes in two thicknesses.

The Hullachan Pro Regular is normal padded and the Hullachan Pro Comp has a thinner insole.
